Hypnosis FAQs
What It Is and What to Expect
Many people are curious about hypnosis before they begin. Some feel interested but unsure, especially if their only exposure has been stage hypnosis or television. Clinical hypnosis is very different. It is a calm, collaborative process used to help you relax, focus, and respond more easily to helpful therapeutic suggestions.
Hypnosis is usually experienced as a state of deep relaxation and focused attention. You are not asleep, unconscious, or out of control. Most people remain aware of where they are, can hear my voice clearly, and know what is happening throughout.
Some people feel very relaxed physically. Others simply feel calm, mentally absorbed, or less distracted than usual. There is no single “hypnotised feeling” that everyone experiences in exactly the same way.
Will I be asleep?
No. You may feel deeply relaxed, and sometimes people say they felt so peaceful they could have drifted off, but hypnosis is not sleep. You remain able to hear, think, and respond.
Will I lose control?
No. You remain in control throughout. Hypnosis is not something that is “done to you” against your will. It works through your cooperation, attention, and willingness to engage in the process.
If you wanted to move, speak, open your eyes, or stop, you could.
Can I be made to do anything I do not want to do?
No. You cannot be made to do anything against your values, wishes, or judgement. Clinical hypnosis is not about control, performance, or manipulation. It is a therapeutic process, and my approach is respectful, professional, and grounded.
Is it like stage hypnosis?
No. Stage hypnosis is designed for entertainment. Clinical hypnosis is used very differently. In therapy, the aim is not to make people perform or behave foolishly, but to help them feel calmer, more focused, and more able to shift patterns that are no longer helping them.
Will hypnosis work for me?
Most people can benefit from hypnosis if they want to engage with it and are comfortable following simple guidance. It is not about having a particular type of mind or personality. It is more about willingness, focus, and feeling safe enough to participate.
Can I get stuck in hypnosis?
No. You cannot be “left under” hypnosis. Hypnosis naturally comes to an end, just as daydreaming or deep absorption does. You remain able to return to ordinary alertness whenever needed.
How does hypnosis help?
Hypnosis can help create a calmer, more focused state in which helpful therapeutic suggestions are easier to take in. It can be useful in work around anxiety, fears, habits, confidence, and emotional overwhelm, depending on your needs and the approach we agree together.
It is not magic, and it is not about surrendering control. It is simply one therapeutic tool that can help some people access change more easily.
A calm and respectful approach
My approach to hypnosis is quiet, professional, and straightforward. There is nothing theatrical, forceful, or power-based about the way I work. No gimmicks, no performance, and no attempt to override your will. The process is collaborative, and you remain an active participant throughout.
