The first concern of an IAPH therapist is a duty of care to the client - it is therefore no different to other therapeutic approaches with respect to ethical guidelines and standards. Confidentiality features highly within these guidelines and practitioners comply with the 1998 Data Protection Act which specifically relates to information of a sensitive nature with particular regard to mental or sexual health.

Additionally, laws governing disclosure state that any data gathered under hypnosis is not admissible as evidence in a court of law.
